Final Standings
The New Hampshire Bass Federation held its annual Summer Open on Squam Lake on Sunday, July 25, 2010. The day started cool with a light drizzle that did not deter the 27 teams that arrived to make up the field for this event, but as the day progressed it was hot and sticky. Water temperatures were close to 80 degrees most of the day with a few spots in the main lake hovering around 78.1. What saved the day here was the constant breeze otherwise it would have felt like 100 degrees.
This year our teams are competing for the Minn Kota / Hummingbird Team of the Year. The team of Gary Croteau and Denise Allain (aka as the lady of the lake) took first place tipping the scales at 23.05 with a mixed bag of 6 largemouth and 2 smallmouth anchored with a 4.98 largemouth. This team drove all the way to our lake from Berlin NH. The forte for this team truly is jig and pig but today after targeting the green fish they needed two more fish to anchor this bag and went to a couple of honey holes to procure two smallmouth. Most of the day it was jig and pig, Senkos and near the end of the day it was more spider grubs and humps. Once again Congratulations. The team took home a substantial windfall of cash along with a case of Yamalube. Thank you to those sponsors. Hope to see you at our last event, our Fall Open on Winnisquam as a Midweek.
Captain Chris Martin and Matt Martin with a sweet bag of largemouths and a single smallmouth took our second place spot with 21.17. This team targeting green fish from the word go but before we get there, this team just made the registration in the morning. They were looking for a tournament and they found one. Kudos to them. They had their limit very late, they only had 5 fish by 9 am and truly struggled to get that last fish which came about 2:10. Most of the green fish came from swimming a jig and throwing big Senkos. That single smallmouth came on a spider grub. Congratulations.
Mark Miner and Bruce Acox secured third place with a mixed bag of 3 largemouth and 5 smallmouth at 20.56. Mark and Bruce were one of the first to tip the scales today; they locked that first place up with 20.56 to set the bar high for the tons of teams that came after them. Mark talks to throwing that crank bait, throwing it deep. Mark wanted to share their story about catching their big largemouth in almost 19 feet of water. They deployed mark’s forte of crank baits and doubled up a few times as Bruce threw a drop shot. They had their limit fairly early and culled a few times after that. They also secured Ranger Cup for being the top Ranger in the field. Congrats
Our fourth spot went to the team of John Rafuse and Tom Lyons coming to the scales with 5 largemouth and 3 smallmouth for a total of 20.39. This team used Senkos, spinner baits and jigs. As they pulled some of those fish out at the scale with Tom’s pipes, it was clear they had no problem with getting the fish.
Our lunker largemouth went to the team of Bryan Dexter and Rob Morin at 5.52 and our lunker smallmouth went to the team of Roger Urbanski and Dick Smith. Great job guys.
The NHBF wishes to also thank its National and Local sponsors: Ranger Boats, Chevy, Yamaha, Evinrude, Solar Bat, Lowrance, Berkley, Castrol, National Guard, Minn Kota, Northern Bass Supply. Very special thanks goes out to Sandy at Northern Bass for her support of our State Team with her assistance in selling the raffle tickets for the Minn Kota Trolling Motor that will be drawn at the July Federation Meeting.
Our final event of the year, our Fall Open will be on September 29, 2010 on Lake Winnisquam. This will be a midweek event. Hope to see you all there.
