Brian Morin, of Manchester NH, has achieved what many Federation members have dreamed about for decades. Brian has been fishing since he was a kid. He started with trout in small NH streams, but got bored quickly when summer came along and dried up his creeks. He turned to largemouth and smallmouth bass and he never looked back. He joined the New Hampshire BASS Federation just four short years ago. He spent two years with the Bass Addicts and has been with Hardcore Bass for 2 years now. In September of 2001, he qualified in 6th place for the NHBF State Team and recently, on his first try, qualified for BASS Nationals by leading a very strong New Hampshire team to a second place finish at the 2002 Eastern Regionals in Hartford Connecticut.
Brian, age 32, is a Service Manager for First Student in Nashua NH. He is father to two young boys, Nick (age 7) and Kyle (age 3). He describes his favorite moment in fishing as watching his son Nick catch his first bass, all by himself. The equipment Nick used was the typical Zebco 202, snoopy outfit. The smallmouth, all 3.5 lbs. of him, jumped 5 times before coming to net. A future star in the making? Brian runs a Triton TR-19/Mercury EFI. He claims his favorite technique is finesse fishing with light tackle and lists his favorite bait as a 5-inch Yamamoto Senko. Brian prefers river fishing to lake fishing and says his favorite body of water is the Merrimack River. He claims that river fish are easier to pattern, as he prefers to target fish rather to cast to wide-open spaces. His biggest Largemouth weighed 6 lbs. and was taken on a plastic worm from Stumpfield Pond. His lunker Smallmouth grabbed a Husky Jerk at Deering Reservoir and weighed just over 5 pounds. When not fishing, Brian's hobbies include hunting, ice hockey and raising his two boys.
By virtue of his strong finish at the Regional Championship, Brian will represent New Hampshire at the 2003 BASS Federation National Championship in Tuscaloosa Alabama the week of May 12-17. Congratulations and good luck to Brian!
